Wow, what a refined young woman. Surely she had come from an upper class home. But Lily didn't ask, it wasn't her business. If Elise ever wanted to talk about it, Lily would gladly lend an ear.
"You are most welcome, young lady. And don't worry, you are in no way an imposition to me. In fact, I would rather enjoy your company. I think you could probably ride today if you wanted. But first maybe you'd like to drop off your stuff at my apartment and maybe take a shower. I know I always like showering after I travel, it soothes aching muscles and relaxes you. Then we can find some riding clothes for you. You're about my height, so some of mine might fit you. Otherwise we can hit the mall. My treat."
The smile never left her face as she spoke. This was going to be fun, almost like having a younger sister...that spoke fluent French, with not accent.

Obvious relief flooded into Elise's eyes.
Thank you. Oh, thank you! You are so very kind! Please, though, I do have a little money, I do not want you to have to provide for me. I would feel incredibly guilty.
Elise tried hard to sit still. She wanted to jump up and dance around the cafe'. Fate was certainly smiling on her today. First she found this place, and now one whom she could call a friend. And not only that, a place to stay, and horses to ride - it was overwhelming! Elise beamed from ear to ear. Then lost her smile quickly as she thought of how easily her great-aunt had continually ripped away anything of importance or pleasure in Elise's last several years. The girl set her jaw firmly. She was determined her great-aunt would never take anything away from her again!

"You are most welcome. And if you insist on paying, then who am I to say no?" Lily finished her coffee and left a few dollars as a tip in the middle of the table. Picking up her purse, she looked at Elise. "You ready?" They would stop by her apartment first, then go from there to find clothes and such for her.

Elise quickly stuffed the rest of her sandwich in her mouth, nodding her head as she stood. She grabbed her backpack from where it had been hanging on the chair and slung it over her shoulder. How eager she was to take a nice hot shower, and see the place she might be able to call home, at least for awhile. Elise rounded the table to stand by Lily and grinned at her. I'm ready!
