Type: Auction Registered Name: Shoot for the Stars Stable Name: Luna Starting Date: June 19, 2008 Closing Date: June 25, 2008 Asking Price: $1000+ Horse or Pony: Horse Gender: Mare Age: 3yo Breed: Friesian x TB Height: 16.1hh Colour: Dark bay, no markings Riding Style: English Example Post: Luna blinked twice as she entered the brightly lit arena. The lights glinted off her shiny, dark bay coat as she pranced, led by a man she had never met before. She did not know where she was, or why. Her missed her home, her parents, her friends. This strange place scared her.
"Shoot for the Stars, a Friesian x Thoroughbred cross mare, three years old. This is a fine mare, ladies and gentleman. Classy bloodlines, and just look at her! Beautiful! The bidding will start at $1000." The auctioneer boomed over the loudspeaker, making the nervous filly jump and jig sideways. She wasn't normally this skittish, but all of this was new and a little scary to her. Ears pricked forward as she took in the sights and sounds around her, nostrils flaring slightly as she sniffed the air.

Nathan Story had no idea why he was here. At all. Sure, he didn't have a horse right now, but he always caved at auctions. Of course the horse he managed to buy was a good one, but he hated seeing the ones that no one bid on run through the other side of the arena. They'd never enter this place again.
He was leaning over the arena fence, getting weird looks from just about everyone else. But no way was he about to be sitting in the stands. His hope of finding a good horse to work with today was getting lower and lower as each horse entered, got sold, or ran out the other side of the arena.
Finally he stepped away from the fence with a slight sigh, turning his back and planning on walking out of this building and finding a horse elsewhere.
"Shoot for the Stars, a Frisian x Thoroughbred cross mare..."
That was all he had to hear. He turned quickly around and looked out into the arena, surprised at the filly. She had amazing confirmation, the dark bay was a stunning color, and she was actually pretty calm for where she was. He listened intently to the rest of her information. Three years old, classy bloodlines. 1,000 dollars. But why was she being auctioned off?
After a moment he shook his head, getting the thought from his mind. He had to bid now or never.
"1000!

A young woman entered the auction house. Her medium-length brown hair was up in a ponytail like usual. She rarely found herself with her hair down. She walked quickly but with grace, and she had found if she walked with a purpose less people would talk to her. Usually she didn't like talking with other people. A lot of horse people she had met before were snobbish and... abusive, to put it bluntly. She had come here to try to escape that and find better people.
She neared the auction ring as the mare was led into the ring. She caught her eye and so Alyssa walked in that direction. She leaned against the rail, propping one leg up on a lower bar. After listening to the mare's description and watching this seemingly good mare was going for that kind of price.
Even though she already had a horse, she felt the urge to bid on her. She glanced in the direction she had heard the bid from but couldn't pinpoint the bidder. Ah, no matter. she thought, glancing at the mare once more. "$1050." she said to the auctioneer. The butterflies in her stomach were growing with the anticipation of acquiring another horse.
[Lmao. I haven't RPed in so long, hope it isn't horrible. =) ]

"One thousand dollars by the gentleman on the rail. Thank you sir. Do I hear another bid?" The auctioneer paused for only a moment before hearing a second number called out, this time by a young woman. "One thousand fifty for the lady. It seems you may have some competition, young man."
Luna pricked her ears as she eyed the two people on the rail. They seemed nice enough at first glance. She picked up an easy trot at her leader's command, greatful to be able to stretch her legs a little. She'd been in and out of trailers and stalls for nearly a week. Even her training had stopped. Noone came to see her anymore, not even for a brief hello. She actually longed for the saddle and bridle and the daily lessons. Luna enjoyed learning and was eager to begin again. Hopefully someone would take her home and end her wait.
ooc: ya, it's been a while for me, too. small posts atm, but i'm trying to make them longer.

Nathan glanced from the mare to the woman, an eyebrow raised. This would be interesting.
1100, he called out after a few seconds of thinking it through. He could manage to spend up to a few thousand on the mare, but no more than that. There could, after all, be a different horse worth his bidding if he didn't get her. But he shook his head after a moment, a shiver running down his spine. He'd win the mare. No questions asked.
[ooc; Kay. My excuse for a short post is that I'm leaving in an hour for like, 5 days of camp. So sorry guys! <3]

Alyssa watched the auctioneer for direction, she hadn't been here for awhile and it slipped her mind exactly how they worked all the auction. She pinpointed the man who had bid in the beginning and who had placed another bid over hers. She turned her eyes onto the mare, who seemed almost bored. She thought for about a minute, pondering if it would really be a good idea to bid for her again. Her heart said yes, and her brains said yes, but her conscience said no.
She went with her heart and her brains and bid again "Eleven fifty." (1150 XD) she called to the auctioneer, gazing at the mare's beautiful stride.

ooc: sadness...we'll miss ya cookie, if u can't get on at camp. how's the bidding gonna work then? if she can't bid, i mean... rawr. lol
"We have eleven hundred. Do I hear a raise from the lady?" the auctioneer glanced at the young woman, who shortly called out eleven fifty. "Thank you, ma'am. Eleven fifty." He looked out at the crowd, clearly trying his best to sell this horse. "Come now, folks, she's a fine horse. Worth much more than her going price. She'd be a great eventing prospect. Just look at those muscular hindquarters, and those beautiful, long legs. The natural grace of a Friesian and the sportiness of a Thoroughbred rolled into one amazing filly."
Luna trotted along gracefully, her head naturally rounding out slightly, though she still held it a bit high. The poor man leading her almost couldn't reach, so he tugged a couple times on the lead and she brought her head down. She was mellowing out nicely, getting used to her surroundings and the noises. Then, a loud bang filled the large room. A spring storm had begun outside and thunder crashed over the building. Luna let loose a scream and bolted. Her handler lost his grip on the lead and she galloped around the ring. She stopped a moment or two later, wide-eyed and breathing heavy, a fine layer of sweat darkening her pelt slightly. The man approached slowly and grabbed the lead, talking to her in a low, soothing tone and patting her sweaty neck. Luna started to calm down and the man walked her off once more. She circled the ring three times before her heart-rate returned to normal.
ooc: totally needed a little drama, lol. life is dull atm, need to spice it up a bit. besides, just had a storm, so i thought i'd use the inspiration, rofl

[Lol thanks Cook. ♥]
The mare's reaction to the storm caught Alyssa by surprise. She watched the man calm her down and took note on what worked to sooth her. Obviously Alyssa would have to work on desensitizing the mare a bit. She smiled as the auctioneer awarded the horse to her. After watching the mare finish another lap around the ring and be led out the back for her, she stood up and paid for the mare. She made her way to the back of the auction house to get her new mare. 'I'm sure Smudge will like her.' she thought, smiling.

Luna followed the nice man around the ring once more, then was led out the opposite side she had come in on. Her coat was dry now and free of sweat. In fact, if someone looked at her now, they would never guess she had just spooked at thunder. But she was still young and had very little training, and even less handling in the last week or two. She was happy for human contact and was curious about her new owner, and her new home. What would it be like? What would she be like? Only time could tell, and Luna wished it would hurry up.
