The shaggy black horse had an awkward gait to him. It was a half walk-half trot sort of thing. Stride, stride, skip, stride, stride, skip. Maybe he was just excited. The Glades were empty. They hadn't always been this way, Valentino still caught the scent of a horse - a very old scent mind you, it was there for maybe half a second, but they had been empty for awhile. Maybe something had happened, some sort of danger and everyone needed to leave. Maybe not. For now, all that mattered was that this land was empty of horses, bar Valentino.
Still, Valentino wasn't the most threatening creature around. He was only just a horse and he had a backyard pony look to him. Shaggy, unkempt coat with patches of mud on it. Of course, he was wild. That was to be expected. It wasn't like he had a groom who sat there washing him and painting his hooves. And that was the way Valentino liked it.
Valentino stretched out and let out a tremendous neigh. One that said, 'this place is mine.' Then, he set off to explore his new home. If anyone wanted to challenge him, they could come find him.

A cold wind blew as Adara limped up the hill. She was struggling to reach the top. He leg was throbbing with pain with each step. Grunting, she took the final step to the level top of the hill.
Adara looked around her, she shivered when she saw the stallion. Slowly, she stepped toward him with her head bowed. She hoped the stallion would accept her, she really could take a confrontation right now. She let out a low nicker offering friendship.

Valentino almost didn't notice the black mare. It was only when he heard the grunt that he saw her. The mare was limping horribly. Valentino was surprised that she even made it up the hill. He paused for a moment before realising that an injured horse the was smaller than him couldn't really do too much damage.
He nickered softly as reply to the mare as he trotted over. His mind was reeling as he tried to decide how to help the mare. The best thing would be rest, obviously. It wouldn't be too bad here - it was summer, so it wasn't like there was any rain, but it was too far away from water and too open from everything else. The best thing to do would be to move closer to the river, but that was still a fair distance off, and it was rather hilly.
"Rest here. I'll keep lookout. When you get better we'll move closer to the river."
