It had been two years, at least, since Valentino had stepped into his lands. Were they even his anymore? Had someone else taken over them in his absence? Most likely. He couldn't even remember his own mares anymore. There had been a couple of them...one had been grey, maybe? Lord, he couldn't remember his own herd anymore.
The black Brumby had changed in the past two years. He still had his shaggy black coat, some of his old wounds had healed and new ones had appeared. He had lost some of his backyard pony look though. He was a bit more mature now, more worldly.
Valentino's lands...or old lands, he didn't know which, hadn't changed that much. They still looked quiet. A lot of the wilderness was. The town was nearby. Other horses had been caught and there probably hadn't been that many to begin with. Still, there had to be someone living here. He began to let out a neigh, but stopped suddenly. Maybe another horse had taken over, maybe his old herd didn't want him back - maybe his old herd didn't remember him. Valentino didn't know what to do.
Suddenly, his ears pricked. Hoofsteps. Another horse was nearby.

Aria was walking through the forest, picking her way through the lush new foliage that covered the earth. It had been two long years since she'd taken over these lands from Valentino, and so much had happened since then. The herd had grown vastly, and she'd matured a little. She'd grown into the role, and she was starting to enjoy it. The fae stopped and raised her dial in the air, nostrils flaring as she took in a new scent. No, not quite new, yet not exactly familiar, either. Picking up a canter, she headed in the direction the scent was coming from, and there on the edge of her terra stood a familiar black form. Aria slowed and halted in front of him, a gentle smile on her face. "Welcome home, Valentino." She doubted if he even remembered her.

Courage trotted around, he'd matured nicely and was well built, But he still had the same coltish personality, thats something he'd have for his whole life. Courage squealed as a bird flew past his head, soon after simply snorting and continuing on his way, he turned his head as a strange scent moved past him in the wind, it was a strange horse. Shaking his head, Courage cantered towards it until he had the strange stallion and Aria in sight, he slowed t a trot until he was beside Aria, where he stopped, looking the stallion up and down.

"...Aria," the horse murmured. She was the grey horse he remembered. She hadn't changed much physically, but she had an air of power about her. It wouldn't have surprised Valentino if she was the one who took over.
His ears pricked again as another horse approached, but this time he was a bit more calm than before. The horse that appeared was well built, but didn't look fully matured either. He still acted like a colt. This horse was unfamiliar - he must have come after Valentino left.
"Er...hi," he said, unsure of how to act towards this new horse. "I'm Valentino. I used to live here."

Ravenna raised her delicately chisled head at the faint sound of hoofbeats approaching. She stood absolutely still, only her ears flicking back and forth to better catch the sound. Once she determined where the sound of the beats was coming from, the ebony vixen swiveled her head in that direction, eyes narrowing. The figure of a lone horse came into view shortly. As it drew closer, Ravenna recognized the owner of the beats as the one who had welcomed her into his home when she was lost and weary. Valentino! He is home at last!
Ravenna turned and quickly headed across the vast expanse of the plain that separated them. As she hurried along, two other horses crossed her line of vision - Aria and Courage - who were also heading toward the black steed. They were much closer than she, and reached their destination as Ravenna continued to hurry across the land.
She slowed as she reached the three equine. Ravenna acknowledge Aria and Courage as she approached, then stopped directly in front of Valentino.((OOC: Is anyone still playing here? I've been away for so long, and was so excited to be able to come back, but then I see that no one is really posting. =( ))

Valentino turned his head at the sound of the new horse. It was another familiar one...Ra-something. The name would come to him soon. Valentino sighed slightly. He was such a lousy lead horse. It was probably better that Aria held his old position.
Valentino took a half-step backwards when the black mare stopped in front of him without saying anything. It was slightly off-putting.
"Good morning," he murmured. He couldn't remember this mare at a...
That was it. Ravenna. The last time Valentino saw her, she had been a sickly little thing who had been travelling for far too long. Their roles had seemed to be reversed now.
"It's been a long time, Ravenna. What have I missed?"

Ravenna lowered her crania, fine neck arched gracefully, in a respectful bow. Welcome home, Valentino. I am most pleased by your return. Delicately, the dark mare reached her muzzle forward to carefully nuzzle the brute to whom she owed so much. He had, after all, given her a home at last. Ravenna tilted her head, thinking over the length of time that Valentino had been absent from their home. After a moment she replied, Aria has allowed some new equine into the lands, but really, everything has been fairly uneventful. Her ears drooped then. As glad as she was to see him, Ravenna was still hurt that Valentino, the first equine she had shared any companionship with for such a long time, had left her so soon after bringing her to his home. She asked softly, Where have you been? Why did you go? And what brings you back now?

Courage stood with his ears pricked, he didn't know how to react to another stallion, his first reaction wouldn't be aggressive, that wouldn't end well for him. Courage turned his head as another horse joined the small group, he turned his Attention back to the strange stallion and pranced nervously. hi, I'm Fermino Courage, i joined a while ago.. Courage relaxed slightly, Valentino didn't seem like he was going to pick a fight. He stood quietly as the mare and stallion spoke, it wasn't his place to interrupt.

Valentino stayed silent for a few moments, unsure of how to reply to Ravenna. "I...went travelling," he began, choosing his words carefully. "I wanted to see if there was anything out there, other than the town." Valentino paused for another beat. "I came back because there's nothing else out there. Nothing at all. I think we are the only wild horses left out here." Valentino's ears drooped slightly. It was depressing to think that eventually, every horse here would belong to a human.
Valentino shook his head slightly. "It's not important. I'm sure we'll be fine. It's good that Aria let those horses in. These are her lands now, really, and the horses need a home if we're all that's left. But tell me Ravenna, how have you really been?"
Finally, Valentino turned to the new horse, Courage. "Welcome to the Glades. If you don't mind me asking, where did you live before here? Why did you come here?" There was a bit of a desperate tone to Valentino's words. There had to be something else out there.

Aria remained silent as the others caught up. So much had happened since Valentino had left. She'd taken over the lands, so many horses had joined the herd, Courage had become her second in command. But it was still comforting to have him back. She had not felt comfortable with being able to protect all of the mares that now lived in the Glades, but with three stallions in residence, it eased her mind.
"There is more out there, Valentino. Much of this world is occupied by humans, but there are other wild herds. However, none of them are very near here. I traveled through many small bands in my first few years after...Well, most of my life was spent in small herds across the land." She wasn't sure if she was making sense, but Valentino seemed so desperate for information, and she wanted to help.

"So at the very least, we know there used to be other wild horses out there. When I first came here there were so many other herds. Now there's only us, only this." Valentino suppressed a sigh. "If there were any nearby, I would have seen them. I've been traveling for a long time...too long." This time, Valentino really did sigh.
"So, we're all here. We should do something." He glanced at the herd for suggestions. He had nearly forgotten how to deal with other horses after all the time he spent as a loner.

Ravenna was saddened by the noble steed's depression. Gently, she nudged his shoulder. We may be alone, but at least we have each other, Valentino. She snorted softly at his question. I have been...here. Ravenna knew that was quite a vague response, and continued apologetically, That's really all I can say. This may be my home now, but I still feel lost and alone.
The ebony vixen paused while Courage and Aria spoke.
