Valentino had been back in his home for nearly two seasons now. He had spent autumn and winter resting and healing and it was starting to show. His ribs no longer showed and the majority of his wounds had healed. He still had his long, shaggy coat, but the longer, shaggier winter coat was starting to disappear. For the first time in a long time, he was healthy.
After spending the winter couped up in the Billow Glades, Valentino had decided to explore more of the Wildlands he called home. Maybe it was because he had been away for so long, or maybe because he just never explored that much before, but Valentino could not remember seeing these plains before.
The early morning sun was just starting to rise over the horizon. The land before Valentino stretched out for miles and miles, just lush spring grass with a few trees dotted around. There were no fences, no sign of cattle, no sign of humans. These lands were wild. Excitement rose inside of Valentino and he couldn't help set off at a mad gallop, neighing loudly.
After a few minutes Valentino slowed down to a trot, and then a stop. His ears pricked as he caught the scent of another horse. He couldn't tell if it was one of his herd or one from the Timberland Sierras, but it didn't matter. He let out another neigh, a friendly greeting to whoever else it was that decided to explore the new (to Valentino, at least) lands.
