All day, Staring at the ceiling, Making friends with shadows on my wall, All night, Hearing voices telling me, That I should get some sleep, Because tomorrow might be good for something, Hold on.
James wandered aimlessly along the side of the river, occasionally ducking down and picking up a pebble to skip across the water. Well, in saying that, he attempted to skip a pebble across the water. He'd never really managed to pick up the pebble-skipping skill. So the pebble would be thrown into the middle of the river, and he would watch it sink to the bottom and in a cloud of sandy dirt, disappear.
He finally decided to stop his walk alongside the quietly flowing river - it as an in-between temperature. Not too hot, but not too cold. Just nice. James sat down on a sand bank, not caring if he got sand all over his nice blue jeans and further more, not caring if he got sand on his grey-ish-green shirt that had his first favourite band, Green Day, on it when he laid down, either. He figured that washing machines were magic and would be able to remove it all, anyway.
You can give your life or you can lose your soul You can bang your head or you can drown in a hole Nothing lasts forever, but you can try Look around you…

Keely's grey eyes scanned the water before her, tendrils of her black hair waving lazily to one side from the breeze. She had rolled up the legs of her faded blue jeans, and her black and white slip on shoes had been left on the driver's seat of her car. Her phone rang for what she thought was the hudredth time in the past few days. She knew who was calling her before she even looked at the screen. It was Caleb, her ex-boyfriend and the father of her baby, and she knew all he wanted was her to "get rid of it" as he liked to define it, it didn't seem that even her moving away would do, he was still pestering her to do what he wanted. She didn't even know why she had been with the jerk in the first place, she guessed it was just one of those things. Rejecting the call, she stared down at the phone in her hand, contemplating the thought of throwing it into the river, so she never had to see it again.

There’s a woman crying out tonight, Her world has changed, She asks God why, Her only son has died, And now her daughter cries, She can’t sleep at night.
James was lulled gently out of his daze by the sound of a ringing phone; seconds after planting his feet back in reality he came to the conclusion that it wasn't his phone ringing. But, as everybody does anyway, he looked for the culprit, the owner of the said phone. He saw a lithe girl not too far away from him, her hand tightening around the now non-ringing phone and a furrowed brow.
His guess was that she wasn't happy and was frustrated about something; but what? Sighing, he got to his knees and dusted his back off somehow, debating whether to go talk to the girl or not.
Downtown another day for all the suits and ties, Another war to fight, There’s no regard for life, How do they sleep at night, How can we make things right, Just wanna make this right.

Barely a minute had passed when it started ringing again, and something in Keely snapped. Whilst it was still ringing shrilly against the peaceful quiet of her surroundings, Keely threw the phone as hard as she could towards the water. It curved in a graceful arc towards the water, ever the while still ringing. She watched it make its progress, not even feeling the slightest bit of regret about what she had done.

High speed, but you know you're in safe hands. In the dark we make a brighter light, From one spark to the horizon wide, We trust and together we tame the land - yeah.
James watched as the phone went sailing over his head and for a moment he was frozen in position. Now, James wasn't poor.. But he wasn't exactly super rich. He lived happily on what he had - but to see someone throwing away their mobile completely boggled his mind.
Without much more of a thought, he slid his shoes off and his own necessities out of his pocket (phone, wallet) and ran into the water, diving and swooping down, picking up the falling phone before even the sandy dirty he'd stirred up upon entry had caught up with him. Standing up and wading back out of the water, he shook the phone gently a couple of times to help get rid of the water.
Unfortunately, the phone appeared dead.
James sighed and shook it a tad more vigorously and his face sprung into a look of shock when it suddenly started ringing and his finger accidentally pressed the green 'pick up' button on it.
"Uh, hello?" he said sheepishly into the phone. He hadn't meant to accept the call, only to return the phone to the unknown girl. But he could hardly hang up without a response.
I will be strong I will be faithful, 'Cos I'm counting on a new beginning, A reason for living, A deeper meaning.

"Who is this?" an arrogant snarl responded to James' voice.
"No, no, no..." Keely groaned as she saw James speaking into her discarded mobile after retrieving it from the river. She jogged quickly over to him, an apprehensive look on her face, wondering what on earth Caleb was saying to him, and how he would react to some random guy answering her phone. In the back of Keely's mind was also how she would explain why she had thrown her mobile away in the first place to this guy, she realised it must have seem to be a very odd thing to do.

"James Moore." he replied in a short tone to the guy on the other end of the phone - he was rather taken aback by the guys first question, feeling as if he was being intrusive and such. Which, well.. Really he was. So yeah. But he still didn't like being talked to in that tone - well, I don't think anybody would like being talked to in that tone.
"And who're you?" James asked in return, managing to make his tone light and polite.

Keely reached James, a worried look on her face. She felt a bit embarrassed, but she guessed it was her own fault for throwing the phone into the river in the first place, if she hadn't of done it he wouldn't had answered it...she pushed these thoughts aside for the time being, focusing on what was happening now.
"Caleb, though I'm sure Keely has told you all about me already. Seeing as though you have the privilege of answering her phone for her, you can tell her she has one of two choices- come back by herself and have the stupid abortion or I'll come get her myself," the tone of Caleb's voice sounded somewhat dangerous, Keely could her what he said from the loud volume that always emitted from her phone and her face paled, the look of worry on her face deepening.

James sighed and jutted his hip out for a second or two, showing a look of general impatience at the immaturity of the daft sod named Caleb who apparently thought his words would have some sway on him.
"Well, pleased to talk to you, Caleb. As for Keely, I'm assuming that's the lovely lady standing next to me," he said, smiling gently at Keely in efforts to dissipate her anxious look. She was a stranger, but his instinct to keep her safe and out of harms way had already kicked in. "I've never met her before more than minute ago, accidentally answering her phone. As per these two options you've given her, I'm supplying you with a third. She clearly doesn't want to speak to you, or comply with your wishes," he said, placing emphasis on 'wishes' as he highly doubted they were being asked - being forced upon, more likely. "And since I gather she is pregnant, she has every right to keep her child. If you do try and force her to have an abortion by arriving in Aura Valley, you'll have to come through me first. Bye." he said, shutting her phone.
With that, he turned to Keely, "Pleasant fellow, this Caleb?"

"As pleasant as they come," Keely replied, her voice tight. She felt the overwhelming urge to burst into tears, she just couldn't believe that it was going so far that Caleb was threatening to come and get her. Sighing, she ran her fingers through her unruly locks, grateful to James for standing up for her, but also feeling bad that she had dragged him into this. After a few brief moments she spoke again. "Thankyou..." she said, voice trailing off, unable to find words for how much him doing what he did meant to her right now.

"Figured as much." replied James, sighing once more. He usually didn't sigh much, but in this situation found that he was sighing a fair bit. He turned to Keely, who's eyes were slowly getting more and more glassy looking.
"Hey," he said soft, using the knuckle of his right pointer finger to tip her face up. "Chin up, sweetie. You're going to be a Mum." he said, brushing off the thankyou - he expected that anybody else, had they been in his place, would have done the same.

Keely couldn't help but let a small smile slip, though her eyes were still a little wet with the unshed tears. She normally took quite a while to become comfortable around anyone, but she found that she already felt quite comfortable around James. Maybe it's just this place she thought to herself.

James chuckled when Keely smiled. It was nice to see her anxious face relax into a small, if only a small smile. "See! Much better." he said, a grin spread across his face. He fiddled with her phone for a moment more, before handing it back to her. Then a realisation dawned upon him. Whilst it wasn't cold, it certainly wasn't hot and a cool breeze had started blowing moments before.
He was wet. Like, sopping wet. From jumping in the water after Keely's phone. Grabbing a handfull of his shirt, he attempted to wring some of the water out - it somewhat worked.

Taking her phone back, Keely looked him up and down, taking in the soaked state of his clothes. "You know, I don't think that's going to work very well," Keely said, the hint of laughter in her voice. "I have some towels somewhere in my car if you want to use one," she continued. Looking down at her phone, she still somewhat wished that it was still at the bottom of the river.

"Towels would be much appreciated." James replied with a cheeky smile.
James coughed slightly in embarrassment, knowing that wet clothes often dried better when off ones body but realised just how wacky this situation was. He'd just met the girl, her boyfriend was calling to hurl abuse and she was pregnant. And yep, he was about to take his shirt off. Not that that is a bad thing or anything - James was built just nice. Reaching a hand to the bottom of his saturated t-shirt he pulled it up over his head, scrunching it up and wringing it out. Though, when he turned back to Keely he was blushing furiously.
But then he noticed her staring towards her hand, the one that she was holding her phone in. "I've set it to not receive calls from him. I have also put 000 and my own number in speed dial in case he turns up." he said in what he attempted to be a reassuring voice, somehow forgetting his semi-nekkiedness in efforts to make her feel safer.
