Lily sighed in exasperation. He was just going to be difficult today apparently. She stopped him and brought him in, taking him by the halter and leading him toward the gate. She unhooked the lungeline and replaced it with the lead she had carried down with her, tying him to the gate. Sure he wouldn't cause any trouble for the few minutes she would be gone, she opened the door about a foot and squeezed through, closing when she was outside and hurrying toward the barn. Once she was in the tack room, she searched around for the surcingle and training harness and bridle. Finally, after several minutes, she found what she was looking for and hurried back to the arena, closing the door behind her again as she walked back in.

Deductive Snorted and walked over to Lily, he rubbed his head against her side and nickered. Following Lily to the gate, Deductive stood still after being tied and watched her leave, he whinnied and started chewing on the rope holding him to the gate.

Setting the tack down next to the horse, she pushed his nose gently off of the rope he was chewing, hoping he might get the message that it wasn't something he should be doing. "Okay, here goes boy. Since you don't want to listen to me, we're doing ground work today. Hopefully you'll learn something." Picking up the surcingle, she placed it on his back and fastened it, then took the bridle and put it in place, as well as the long driving reins she'd found. It was a rig that was designed to teach a horse to mind the reins. She'd never used it before, and she kinda wished Dustin was there to help her, but she was going to try it nonetheless.

Deductive shook his head and let go of the rope, he looked at Lily and pawed the ground impatiently. Deductive snorted as Lily put all kinds of do-dads on his back, he looked at her with warm eyes and rested his head on her shoulder.

Lily sighed again as he rested his head on her head, looking so pitiful and cute. "Sweety, you brought this on yourself. I personally would be much happier on your back, but you're just not paying attention to me today, so groundwork it is." She rubbed his forehead a minute before pushing his face away gently and taking the reins, clucking lightly to him to walk. Lily planned on starting slow, getting him used to the concept of turning. Once he had this down, then she could add things later, like weight and leg movements when she was on his back. She let him walk down the long side of the arena, keeping light contact with his mouth as she walked behind him, reins in her hands.

Deductive sighed as Lily pushed his head away, he walked with his head low and ears back. Deductive placed every foot carefully, to avoid standing on any more stones, even though he couldn't see any more but the first one had hurt. Deductive arched his neck and looked around.

Okay, well he still wasn't paying very much attention. She pulled on the right rein slightly, asking for a ninety-degree turn to the inside of the arena. Hopefully he would pick this stuff up quickly so they could move on to the more fun stuff, like riding and jumping. She'd never trained a horse, so she wasn't sure how long it would take, or even exactly what she was doing. But she had to have hope that she was taking it slow and wasn't going to screw anything up. At least she couldn't fall off when she was on the ground.

Deductive snorted happily and started prancing forward, he felt the tug on the right reign and turned to the right, he raised his head high and whinnied, hid ears faced back towards Lily as he listened to her voice.

"Thatta boy." Now he was starting to listen to her. She still didn't like him tossing his head or whinnying, but he'd settle in eventually. When they had nearly reached the opposite arena wall, Lily pulled on the left rein, hoping he would turn and align himself with that wall and continue walking. They were going to make a big figure eight this round, then she planned on doing a couple serpentines, maybe even picking up the pace a bit if he was good.

Deductive continued throwing his head around, he didn't like having Lily behind him, he couldn't see her. Deductive bucked, sending his back legs flying out behind him, with another snort, he walked around, turning as he felt the tug on his mouth. Deductive laid his ears back angrily, he saw Lily for a few moments, then she vanished behind him again, he threw his head up and walked a little faster.

"Whoa, easy. Knock it off, Deductive." What was his problem? If she'd known he was going to be such a pain, the would have thought twice about buying him. His hooves had only missed her by about six inches. Too close for her comfort. She tugged on the reins to slow him down as he sped up, giving a little jerk to hopefully settle him down and snap him into focus. "No treats for you tonight if you keep this up." As they reached the far wall, she turned him left again to follow the arena wall.

Deductive snorted loudly and shook his head, he couldn't see Lily anywhere, it was scary. Deductive decided he'd try and find her, she was close, he knew because he'd heard he voice. Turning around quickly, Deductive whinnied happily as he saw Lily, he bobbed his head and nickered non-stop, trying to tell her 'not to hide again.'

Lily stumbled forward as the long reins were jerked out of her hands. This horse was frustrating the heck out of her, and she wasn't sure what to do about it. "What am I going to do with you?" She walked up to him and gave him a pat on the nose. Obviously he didn't like not being able to see her. "Okay, boy, I'm going to do something that you are not going to like in the least. But hopefully it will help you trust me." Taking a handkerchief out of her pocked, she reached up to put it over his eyes. If he couldn't see her no matter what, then he'd have to just listen and obey. At least that was the idea.

Deductive stood happily as Lily patted his nose, he nudged her with his head and waited for what was going to happen next. Deductive snorted as she covered his eyes with something, he shot back a little then stood trembling, the fact he couldn't see anything clicked in his head that it wasn't smart to move around. Deductive pricked his ears, listening carefully to every noise, trying to find Lily's voice among sounds.

Lily watched him until he stopped moving, his trembling and apparent fear breaking her heart. She stepped forward, murmerming comfortingly as she patted his nose and rubbed his neck. She wanted to calm him down and get him comfortable with the blindfold on. When he was, she would take the reins and try again. For this exercise, she would have to have a lot of patience, and Deductive would have to trust her completely. She only hoped he wouldn't hate her after this.
