Deductive pricked his ears towards Lily's voice, he was still trying to figure out why everything went black, still trembling, he started slowly taking small steps towards her voice until he finally felt her touch. Deductive let out a small sigh, he jumped at every little noise, but stayed with Lily.

"That's a good boy. Easy now, you're okay. I'm here. I'm not going to leave you." At least she wouldn't go far, but for now she concentrated on getting him used to not seeing her, and hopefully gain his trust. If he didn't trust her, they didn't have anything, and she didn't want to continue until she was sure he trusted her with his life. She continued to just pet him, running her hands on his forehead and down his neck, every now and then giving him a hug, and constantly talking to him.

Courage bobbed his head as Lily gave him lots of hugs, he loved all the attention. After a few minutes, Deductive was relaxed and he'd stopped jumping, he just stood flicking his tail and enjoying all the love from Lily.

"Thattaboy, that's it. Okay, I'm going to walk away now, but it's okay. I'm not leaving you, I'm just going to be behind you. I hope you pay attention to what I'm asking you instead of just following my voice, because I don't think circles are going to be very helpful." With one last pat and a scratch behind his ear, Lily walked behind him and picked up the long reins. She applied slight pressure for a moment, letting him know where she was, and hoped this would work. She clucked, asking him to walk.

Deductive nickered gently as he listened to Lily's voice, he felt her scratch behind his ear...then nothing, it was like she'd gone. Deductive whinnied loudly and paused when he felt pressure on his mouth, he heard Lily cluck and took small, careful steps forward, sniffing at the ground as he did.

"There ya go, that's a good boy. Keep going, take your time." She wasn't looking for instant trust, because it wasn't going to happen. The small steps he was taking made her extremely happy. He was getting there, she was earning his trust. Or actually, she was making him trust her. She'd have to give him a whole carrot for this.

Deductive snorted and continued taking small steps, but slightly faster, he flicked his tail and shook his head. Deductive had always put a certain amount of trust in people, but they had to earn the rest, that was something he couldn't just hand over.

Lily let him take his time. There was no need to rush him, and this was a trust exercise, as well as a learning exercise. She was walking him down the center of the arena so he wouldn't bump into any walls on accident, and he was only about half-way down. When he got closer to the end, she would turn him and see how it worked. "That's a good boy, keep it up, you're doing great."

Deductive shook his head as he walked, his strides had started to get longer and he wasn't as slow anymore. with a small whinny Deductive lifted his head from the ground, he pricked his ears listening again, there wasn't any noises but he had to make sure.

Lily's smile widened as he quickened his steps. " That's a good boy." He was doing wonderfully. As they got closer to the far end of the arena, she put slight pressure on the right rein. She wasn't sure how he'd react, so she wanted to give him time and plenty of room if he needed it.

Deductive heard Lily praise him and he nickered gently, he felt the tug on the right and turned to walk along the other wall. Staying focused Deductive arched his neck and flicked his tail, listening to see if he got praised agan.

He made a nice, gentle turn, and Lily was even happier. "Good boy, Deductive, good boy." She wanted to go up and hug him, but that would come at the end. For now, she let him walk a little way down the wall and turned him right again, to head straight across toward the other wall. Lily planned on doing a serpentine, getting him used to the signals and earning his trust. At the next wall, she asked him to turn left and follow that for a few yards.

Deductive bobbed his head a few times happily, he got the praise he was waiting for, which meant what he did was right, when she pulled he turned. Excited, Deductive sped up slightly more, so he was walking at his usual regular pace, Lily hadn't led him into anything yet and he was quick to trust, which in some cases could be a bad thing. Deductive felt the small tug again and turned easily, he stretched his neck for a moment then returned to his usual, arched neck and long smooth strides.

"That's a good boy, you're doing great! You are going to get some extra treats today." This was going better than she could have hoped. He wasn't freaking out. In fact, he was doing wonderfully, and he seemed to really be trusting her. She did two more serpentines, then turned him down the center again, where she asked him to trot.

Deductive whinnied with delight again, he could hear Lily praising him and he loved it, without hesitation, Deductive continued doing what Lily asked, easily turning and moving with smooth strides. Deductive heard the cue for a trot, he hesitated, moving his body forward to trot, but never breaking from a walk. After a few minutes of false starts, Deductive moved forward in a slow trot, more of a jog, but it was a start.
