Aria walked along the frost-covered ground, her breath visible as she exhaled. Finding a copse of evergreens, she took shelter under one that had a large section of one side missing. The effect was an opening large enough for two horses, granted they don't mind close quarters, that would protect somewhat against the elements. And it was a few degrees warmer since it blocked the wind.

Courage wandered around the place he called home, he'd been there a while now and often saw the queen who always seemed amused by his antics. With a small squeal, he broke into a trot with his neck arched. Courage shied backwards as he saw the fog from his breath, it was possibly the scariest thing he'd ever seen in his life. Shaking his head, he looked over and saw Aria standing under a small shelter. Courage walked over and bowed his head, for a few minutes before raising it again. hello my queen, how are you today?

A little smile lifted the corners of her mouth as Courage joined her. "I'm fine, thank you. And you can call me Aria. I never had any inclination to lead a herd before, so I still see myself as one of the herd, just with more responsibilities." She hadn't even been born wild. The memories were faint, faded over the years, but she could still remember her mother and the warm stall they shared, with humans that took care of them. And she could also remember the fire on that fateful day, the fire that had consumed everything and changed her life forever. A slight shudder went through her body at she thought about it.

Courage flicked his tail to get rid of an annoying bug, he turned his head and watched his tail as it hit his rump. courage nodded to Aria, she was kind, he hadn't come across that in a while, and he had the scars to prove it. thankyou, and your making a great leader, better than i ever was.

She smiled at his sentiment. "Thank you, that really means a lot to me. How long has it been?" He wasn't very old, so he couldn't have been lead for very long. Now that he wasn't being wierd, which was still cute, his real personality seemed to be coming out, and it was a personality that Aria was beginning to like very much. Courage was a sweetheart, kind and gentle, yet fun to be around and easy to talk to. She hadn't met many like him, especially since she typically kept to herself and often found it difficult to talk to others. Lately, it seemed that was changing.

Courage looked at Aria and smiled, he tossed his head proudly and thought for a moment. i don't know, when i got here, I'm pretty sure you where already leader Couage's ears twitched as a cold wind pushed past him, he flexed his muscles and shook his head.

Aria thought for a moment. Was that true? She wasn't positive, but that sounded about right. "I think you're right, but I hadn't been queen for long. The previous leader just seemed to have too much on his mind to rule a herd, so in my mind, the choice was simple." And she hasn't doubted her decision since. It felt so right for her to take on this role, and she was happy with it.

Courage nodded and pawed the ground, his mane and tail where getting pushed by the wind, he shook his head as a strong breeze went past him, the cold causing him to shiver. is there room in there for another?

She nodded somewhat shyly. "Ya, if you don't mind being squished in here with me." Aria found herself hoping that he didn't mind. In fact, she was almost looking forward to having him snuggled in beside her. She told herself she would just be glad for the extra heat, but something inside her knew better. The mare made as much space for him as possible, moving back toward the trunk of the tree.

Courage snorted and moved into the small space beside Aria, he pricked his ears and relaxed, letting his head droop a little. Even though the wind was cold, Courage's body was suprisingly warm. see, i don't mind. Courage touched his nose against Aria's neck, then pulled away quickly.

Again she smiled shyly as his maws touched her, and a chill went down her spine. She shivered slightly, unsure if it was his touch or the cold. Of course she told herself it was just the weather. She'd always liked winter, but she'd never really liked the drop in temperature. "It's kinda cozy in here, actually. And the added body heat makes it even warmer." Why did she sound so nervous? It couldn't be because their bodies were touching each other, or that her heart was fluttering slightly in her chest for no apparent reason.

Courage bobbed his head and moved his ears around making sure everything was safe, a habit he'd picked up when he was the leader of the previous herd. yea, its nice and warm now. Without thinking courage moved his nose back to Aria's neck.

"Ya." Another shiver ran down her spine as his lips returned to her neck. How could he invoke such feelings in her? She'd only known him for a short time, and she didn't even really know him. When she thought about it, she actually kinda regretted not getting to know him better, and the others in her herd. They were her responsibility, and they should know their leader, their protector. Pushing those thoughts away for another time, she turned her attention back to the present, and the stallion next to her.

Courage stamped his back hoof, he sniffed her neck and slowly pulled away again. Courage fidgeted for a few moments then whinnied, tossed his head and pawed the ground. soo, have you got a partner? or are you leading the herd alone?

Hmm, an odd question she hadn't expected. "I am leading alone." Sometimes it was better that way, noone to argue with. Then again, there was noone to share the burden with, and therefore it could be a stressful position acting as lead for an entire terra. However, she was proud of the job she'd done so far, and glad to see that the herd was growing at a decent pace. There weren't as many as she'd like to see, but more than she would have expected at first. Aria was aware of the fact that she was being rather quiet, but she had no idea what to say.
